May I start with the fact that this book wins as the “coolest cookbook title of the year” award? If it doesn’t catch your attention, well you may not have a sense of humor. Okay, this is a VERY EASY beginning guide to fusing southern cooking with slightly more mindful and healthy ingredients but to a seasoned cook, this may not interest you at all. Its a decent enough book, the desserts are great but its really a novelty book at best. Its fun to read and the title absolutely me giggle but for super serious inspiration, its a bit lacking. But maybe thats EXACTLY the point, the utter simplicity of southern cooking is the root of its charm. The Jalepeno Cornbread is good and the Fried Tofu Chicken Wafflewich with Maple-Mustard is actually quite good. And The Jalepeno-Watermelon salad is really interesting. Maybe I was wrong, these recipes are rather sassy and certainly worth the double-take. There just may be hope for my “crunk-ness” after all…
